Dine at the Pillow

When the Jacob’s Pillow opens its 84th Dance Festival 2016 June 22, it will welcome the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, making a rare East Coast appearance. But there will be other new faces on the campus, which is located at 358 George Carter Road in Becket MA.

Two Berkshire-based food vendors will have locations on the grounds and will be open throughout the Festival 2016 season. Haven at the Pillow will provide a full-service bar and dining in a tented setting, while No. Six Depot Café and No. Six Depot Snack & Coffee Bar, will provide a full-service bar, sandwiches and snacks in a casual setting.

The addition of the new vendors continues a long tradition of food service at Jacob’s Pillow, according to Jacob’s Pillow Managing Director Andrea Sholler. “When Ted Shawn first founded the Pillow as a retreat for his company of Men Dancers, he and the men lived and worked onsite, building their own cabins and raising their food,” she explained. “In 1933, Shawn began to host his now famous ‘Tea Lectures.’ Audience members would travel from miles around, paying for tea and sandwiches served by the Men Dancers, and hear Shawn speak about dance and choreography while his company performed.”

Over the first 83 festivals, dining at the Pillow had many variations. In recent years, the Pillow Café, Pillow Pub and Snack Bar were managed internally. But this year new partnerships have been formed.

“While Jacob’s Pillow is an internationally acclaimed dance organization, it is also an integral member of the local Berkshire community and economy,” said Sholler. “We are excited to partner with these two wonderful businesses.”

No. Six Depot Café & Roastery, out of West Stockbridge MA will provide both a café and a snack and coffee bar at Jacob’s Pillow. It is renowned for its elegant, locally-sourced menu and specialty coffee, roasted in small batches on the premises.

Stop by the Café for a panini, salad, soup, wine, beer or cocktails. Or visit the Snack and Coffee Bar for a full espresso bar, ice cream and smoothie bar, and quick, healthy snacks. No reservations are required. There is counter service with eat-in tables or takeout.

It is open Wednesday through Friday, 4:30-9:30PM Saturday, noon-9:30PM and Sunday noon-5PM.

Haven at the Pillow has created a new menu celebrating diversity with global influences, while its desserts and drinks provide a post-performance treat.

Reservations are recommended; call 413-243-0745 to reserve a table. It is open for dinner Wednesdays through Saturdays, 5-11PM; and for brunch, Sunday 11AM to 2PM. Haven at The Pillow is located in the former Pillow Café space.

“Passion, diversity, and artistry are what come to mind when I think about Jacob’s Pillow,” says Haven Café & Bakery owner Shelly Williams of the new partnership with the Pillow.
