Excursions with Dad on Father's Day

Father's Day falls on the last Sunday of Spring, so we encourage you to spend it enjoying the outdoors - before the Summer heat sets in.

Start off your day with a hike up Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall. Mohawk has options that range from a casual walk to a strenuous hike so you can tailor the trek with your level of experience. There are also many great picnic spots scattered all over the mountain and if hiking isn’t your Dad's thing, you can drive right up to the top to enjoy the far-spanning views - on a clear day you can see The Catskills. berkshirehiking.com

Hotchkiss Golf Course is the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Circling the school campus, the course was designed by a renowned architect to take full advantage of the lay of the land and Berkshire Mountain views. The course is open from 7AM until dusk. You can stretch it out for a leisurely experience and is surprising affordable with nine-holes starting at $15 and 18-holes at $20. www.hotchkiss.org

Post hiking and golfing, continue the outdoor trend with dinner at a newly-opened roadside eatery, The Bistro Box on Route 7 in Great Barrington. This is not your usual food stand- burgers are made with grass-fed beef, the hotdog is all natural from Whippoorwill Farm, the greens are local and desserts are house-made. You're not going to feel guilty indulging in the classic fare when it's locally sourced and made from great ingredients. www.thebistrobox.com

The BOX burger deserves a special mention for its garlic mayonnaise and tomato bacon jam that is the stuff that dreams are made up of. Grab a fresh-brewed ice tea and sit back on the picnic table and enjoy your day with Dad. He deserves it.
