Norfolk Farmers Market

Ten years can fly by when you’re having fun. So, it is with a sense of wonder that Teresa Cannavo looks back on her decade of running the Norfolk Farmer’s Market, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary this Saturday from 10AM until 1PM on the grounds of the Town Hall, 19 Maple Avenue.

Cakes and balloons will provide a festive air and children are invited to join in party games. Favorite vendors will be there with the freshest produce, meats and cheeses, breads and pastries and visitors can browse the wares of talented artisans while listening to live music.

The market is held weekly at the site from May through October 8th. This year, special events and 10th birthday surprises will be offered throughout the season.

Cannavo has set high standards for the farm market and perhaps this accounts for its continuing success when other such enterprises are starting to fade. Cannavo said she started the season with 28 vendors, a high count for opening day, and expects to reach the regular level of 35-40 for Memorial Day Weekend.

“We get a lot of tourists—maybe 450 to 600 people a day—and have thousands of followers on Facebook,” she said. She said the farm market has served as “an incubator” for many start-up businesses.

Everything at the market must be grown or manufactured by the vendors.

“It’s a very friendly atmosphere and that is the way it should be,” she said.

There is free parking and the market goes on, rain or shine. For more information, visit Facebook or the link below.
