Provisions

at the White Hart Inn

The White Hart Inn in Salisbury has been dispensing hospitality for more than two centuries, but now it has added a new level to amenities. Provisions, an espresso bar that doubles as modern general store has opened within its walls, welcoming guests on weekends to enjoy an in-house breakfast or lunch, or to buy a superlative meal to take home and enjoy.

The lines of the light-filled coffee bar are sleek and clean, with cheerful yellow chairs surrounding a trestle table, contrasted by the clear blue and white of walls and cabinets. “We are striving to provide a fun, bright environment for people to come and hang out as well as to provide the area with delicious meals-to-go,” said Provisions manager Lucas Smith. “We do a lot of fine prepared food to take home.”

Smith said Provisions strives to provide first-rate coffee. “There is a strong focus on serious coffee,” said Smith. “We get our coffee from Six Depot Roastery in Stockbridge MA so we know it is always very fresh.”

The “amazingly talented” pastry chef Gabrielle Arios prepares a range of freshly baked goodies for discriminating diners. “Honestly, she does a lot of familiar things—croissants, doughnuts, scones, chocolate chip cookies, including the best warm ham and cheese croissant I’ve ever had—but she puts her own fun twist on them,” said Smith.

Lunch brings a variety of sandwiches such as a beets, pimento-egg salad, feta, black olives and herbs on focaccia sandwich, or turkey, cheddar, avocado, sprouts, tomato, chipotle mayo on soured dough bread. Soups and salads offer lighter fare.

The hours are currently Friday, Saturday, and Monday, 7AM to 4PM and Sunday, 8AM to 4PM.
