Trunk Show at Troutbeck

Sleek and chic. The minimalist fashions created by Katherine Hooker will be presented this weekend in a trunk show at luxurious Troutbeck Inn. The one-day event will be held Saturday from 10AM to 7PM and will feature both her velvet and tweed collection of blazers and coats.

Hooker’s designs have attracted clients as fashionable as Catherine, Dutchess of Cambridge, Taylor Swift and Meryl Streep. “What I can offer to my customers is simplicity. It's all about the line of the silhouette. The cut of a coat can change not just the way that you feel, but the way that you move,” she writes. “My aim is that your piece be the best item of clothing that your granddaughter and great-granddaughter will find in your attic (and it will) still look and feel fantastic. That is the definition of a classic—it goes on forever.”

Hooker was born in Cyprus to an American family and was brought up in French-speaking Africa until she was six years old. She began her professional life as an art director for films and advertisements before beginning a quest to replace a favorite coat that she had worn literally to pieces.

In 2003 she flew to India, armed with a suitcase full of tweeds, and worked closely with a village tailor in Kerala, creating designs based on her memory of the coat, Along the way, she discovered her new career.

When she touched down in London three weeks later with six original coat designs, Katherine Hooker London was born. Each piece is hand cut by experienced tailors and made in a London workshop. Hooker has now developed seasonal ready-to-wear collections, but the heart of the company still lies in its custom-made service.

An extensive array of British, Italian and Austrian fabrics is employed, as is an endless selection of trims and buttons.

Troutbeck is located at 515 Leedsville Road, Amenia, 845-789-1555. The sale is presented by Selina van der Geest and Susanna Salk.
