The Town of New Marlborough

by Penny Michels

BerkshireStyle.com invites you to join us as we take a look at the Berkshires anew. Readers have thanked us for the “exceptional” suggestions for architects, designers, destinations, cultural events and restaurants already found in our pages.

In the upcoming weeks we plan to focus on just what makes each of our towns unique. As new links come to life, new events unfold and new people stand out to be celebrated, we will continue to give you the information you need to live well and with style anywhere in the Berkshires.

Please come on a virtual trip to the places that surround us, some of which you may have never visited before. Discover that small town in New York State known for its restaurant, shop or library. What makes it tick? Take note of the unique outdoor activities that enrich that special town in Massachusetts. Where do I rent cross-country skis to spend the day there? Find some of the treasures hidden in the breathtaking Connecticut countryside. Where is the nearest spot for coffee? As always, BerkshireStyle.com will continue to concentrate on exceptional tips to truly stylish places.

The Town of New Marlborough, Massachusetts, deserves our attention this week because of its unique Winter House Concerts Series.

Sunday, January 20, marks the beginning of the 15th season of live chamber music performances held in the generous comfort of the private homes of Berkshire residents. By tradition Winter House Concerts begin at 4 p.m. and last an hour with wine and hors d'ouevres served afterward. The location of each concert is disclosed upon confirmation of your reservation. Call 413-229-2785.

Because the Town of New Marlborough is made up of five villages; namely, Clayton, Hartsville, Mill River, New Marlborough Village and Southfield, we recommend a link to the wonderful online publication, New Marlborough 5 Village News, which provides an inside look at what ties these villages together.

Physically New Marlborough boasts several rivers to explore, including the Konckapot, Umpachene and Whiting River. There are also several swamps and ponds including Lake Buel on the Monterey line and the Thousand Acre Swamp in the southeast corner on the border of Campbells Falls State Park. Parts of Sandisfield State Forest also lie in the town.

Visit our New Marlborough and Southfield pages to see our very favorite places.
