Bridging Divides, Healing Communities

With a world at war with itself seemingly spinning out of control, dialogue seems to be the only real solution to the divisions and tensions between different groups.

To that end, the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation (BCTF) has launched a virtual speaker series, Bridging Divides, Healing Communities to facilitate conversations that promote unity and understanding.

Three lectures remain in the series and will explore some of the forces and trends creating disparities and division. How local action can build common ground and solve problems will be discussed.

Part II, Moving from “I” to “We,” is slated for April 20 at 7PM and features Dr. Robert B. Putnam, Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University, and Shaylyn Romney Garrett, writer and founding contributor of Weave: The Social Fabric Project.

The conversation will examine economic, social and political trends that influence the extent to which Americans put themselves first or value working together. The co-authors of The Upswing: How America Came Together a Century Ago and How We Can Do It Again will share analysis and stories from the Gilded Age to today to inspire thinking about the future. A student panel is to offer ideas for changing course.

Two additional sessions—on the role of the news and social media in a polarized age with ProPublica's Alec MacGillis, and resident-led solutions underway around the region—will follow.

Details will be announced on the Berkshire Tacinic website

All virtual sessions are open to the public but registration is required.
