THE BIG RATCHET: ROBUST AND RESILIENT

Ruth DeFries—sustainability expert, Columbia University professor and MacArthur 'genius' Grant recipient—will be giving a lively presentation and discussing her book,The Big Ratchet, an optimistic exploration of the adaptability and resiliency of people. While our species long lived on the edge of starvation, we now produce enough food for all 7 billion of us to eat nearly 3,000 calories every day. Discover the leaps in knowledge and technology that have allowed us to wrestle unprecedented amounts of food and energy from the Earth. SPRING CLASSES

Sue Lavallee of Coast of Main Organic Products will be sharing her tips, successes (and failures) and wisdom harvested from many years of seed-starting. Learn tips like pre-planning on paper, what seeds to choose, what type of soil and containers and how to avoid seedling “assassins.” This is the first in a Ward’s Nursery’s spring class season that runs weekly through the end of March—coming up will be Container Gardening, Designing for Curb Appeal, and Planting and Maintaining Strawberries, Raspberries and Blueberries. THE ART OF MASTERFUL LIVING: YOGA SERIES
March 2nd, Saturday, 1-4PM

The first in a series of workshops in the Ashaya Yoga practice led by internationally acclaimed yoga teacher, Todd Norian, this session is titled Open Sky: Back in Your Vastness. Discover how to open up your body, practice and live through a spacious, heart-opening practice including standing poses, hip openers, twists and forward bends as well as a sky meditation and deep relaxation. Ashaya Yoga brings about a flowing integration of all five elements that leaves you feeling strong, confident, peaceful, openhearted, and ready to engage with life wholeheartedly from a place of worthiness. The following sessions will be held on April 10th, May 11th, June 1st and June 29th. $65 for an individual workshop, $275 for all 5 workshops if you register and pay by March 1st.
