STORIES, SMILES, ART AND ICE CREAM: SWEET CONNECTIONS
May 2nd, Thursday, 2-5PM

Community engagement non-profit Change Playground and SoCo Creamery have put together a free one-day pop-up of ice cream, art and storytelling. The event invites guests to share their favorite ice cream memories and make art in exchange for free ice cream. Change Playground co-founder, Gabrielle Senza explains, “Our aim is to create lasting memories around creative engagement. When people are able to connect with others through storytelling and art-making, a powerful sense of belonging occurs. And when you add ice cream into the mix, you’re bound to spark joy!” Free ice cream for the first 100 participants! Free.

ANCIENT BON MEDITATION:
OUR BODIES AND THE FIVE ELEMENTS

May 4th, Saturday, 9:30AM - 5:30PM

According to Tibetan Bon, our bodies are made of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space. Tempa Lama will lead a meditation and visualization for each element, explaining the role of each and its relationship to the functioning and wellbeing of our bodies and minds. Born in the Humla Valley of Nepal with a village shaman priest as grandfather, Tampa Lama entered the Menri Monastery himself at the age of six. The nonprofit organization he co-founded is dedicated to strengthening the culture and traditions in the Humla region of Nepal through access to quality education, healthcare and sustainable economic development. 100% of tuition fees will go towards supporting Humla Fund’s Tibetan Medical Clinic in Nepal.

Sharon Audubon Center’s Director, Eileen Fielding, is leading a discussion on the variety of birds using common NWCT backyard habitats. Learn how to make your home landscape more welcoming and beneficial in order to attract and protect birds, pollinators and wildlife. Take a guided walk through the Kent Greenhouse for hands-on learning about native plants that provide shelter and food as well as the Kent Land Trust’s efforts to improve bird habitat in Kent. Free. INSIDE THE SUPREME COURT: WHAT’S NEXT? WHO’S NEXT?
May 5th, Sunday, 4PM

One of the country’s leading experts on the United States Supreme Court, Constitutional Law Professor Stephen Wermiel, will be covering a broad range of topics in his talk on the current Justices and the Court at large. Wermiel will address the pressing questions about the rulings of the court and its future make-up with his insight informed by his professional, academic and personal connections to the Supreme Court Justices. During his twelve years as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal covering the Supreme Court, Wermiel developed personal relationships with several of the Justices and went on to co-write the definitive biography of Justice William Brennan—who even provided Wermiel with volumes of previously sealed personal and court documents. Free.

CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION: GIL GUTIERREZ ON GUITAR
May 5th, Sunday, 4PM

Once again, the renowned Mexican guitarist Gil Gutierrez will be coming to Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, CT for another outstanding performance of classical Mexican guitar. Playing along with him will be his friend and violinist Bob Stern. With their personal and musical connection, their synchronicity makes these soulful compositions even more moving. On each previous performance Gil drew in a large crowd, and the event hosts recommend you arrive early to secure yourself a seat! Free, donations encouraged.
