BERKSHIRE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
May 30th - June 2nd, Thursday - Sunday, Times vary

The Berkshire International Film Festival has grown into one of the region’s premier film events and, in its 14th year, boasts a line up of 30 documentaries, 30 narrative features and 21 shorts films representing 24 countries. On Saturday night, the legendary Martin Scorsese will be on-hand for a special tribute event with showings of his classic, Raging Bull, and his most recent work, Silence, with a conversation among Scorsese and Kent Jones, the director of the New York Film Festival, between the two films. Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Walt Whitman at this staged reading of America & Me: The Celebratory, Profound and Tormented Musings of Walt Whitman by William Kinsolving. Kinsolving, an author and playwright, has appeared in many on- and off-Broadway plays and was honored with the Best Actor of the Year Award from the San Francisco Chronicle. Enjoy his thoughtful readings of these musings of Walt Whitman—a character in and of himself—on Lincoln, the Civil War, 19th Century America, sensory proclivities and his struggle to publish Leaves of Grass. $20 Nonmembers, $15 Members.

NEXT FESTIVAL: EMERGING STRING ARTISTS
June 1st, Saturday, 7PM

The Next Festival brings together an ensemble of 20 young string players for a week of intense study and practice at Music Mountain, led by Artistic Director Peter Askim. Enjoy the culmination of their work at the Emerging Artists concert where they will perform contemporary orchestral music, including the American Premiere of Toshio Hosokawa’s Hika—a meditation on memory and its fragility. There will be a culinary tent with local food and refreshments available. Free, donations encouraged.
