COMEDY NIGHT AT TURNPARK: KATE WILLETT

TurnPark is thrilled to be presenting a night of stand-up comedy, including a host, a feature comedian and a guest comedian. Headlining the show will be Kate Willett—comedian, actress, and writer who made her network debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She has a special on Netflix’s Comedy Lineup and has toured with Margaret Cho, both nationally and internationally. Her many appearances at Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, and most recently High Plains make her one of the most in-demand comics touring today. $20.

WEEKEND IN NORFOLK: TOWN-WIDE SUMMER FESTIVAL

Once again you’re invited to explore all the wonderful things in the charming town of Norfolk +during its 7th Annual Town-Wide Summer Festival. There is fun for all ages with everything from concerts from the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, to artist and artisan exhibitions throughout town to the return of the hugely popular and fun fire-hose water soccer. Enjoy a game at the open bocce court, a fly-fishing lesson, the town-wide tag sale or even a mushroom foraging walk. DANCE PERFORMANCE: ANGKOR DANCE TROUPE

The Angkor Dance Troupe (ADT) is nationally recognized as one of the most accomplished and experienced U.S.-based Cambodian traditional arts organization. To complement The Clarks’ current exhibition, Rodin in the United States, the ADT takes Auguste Rodin’s thrilled, feverish response to the royal dancers of Cambodia—an inspirational encounter that led to Rodin making about 150 watercolors of the costumed dancers—an opportunity to explore the history of preserving Cambodian dance over the intervening 116 years and a chance to connect across war and the diaspora. $5 - 10.

FRESH TAKES READING: ESCAPED ALONE

Back by popular demand, Escaped Alone by iconic feminist playwright Caryl Churchill (Top Girls, Cloud 9), brings you to a backyard where three old friends and a neighbor spend summer afternoons chatting, while visions of apocalyptic horror play out inside their minds. Deemed “the most dazzlingly inventive living dramatist in the English language” by The New York Times, Churchill entwines histories, laughter, and song over tea and catastrophe. This reading is presented by WAM and directed by WAM Co-Founder and Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven. $15 - 30.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP SERIES: CAPTURING THE WILDERNESS

Join local photographer Thadeus B. Kubis for a three-part series on photography. From cell phones to in-depth wildlife photography, together you’ll explore how to capture the natural world in Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and beyond. The first class begins with utilizing smart phones and tablets, progressing into Digital Photography in the second session, culminating with the third session Wildlife Photograph—Beyond the Basics. In the sessions you’ll explore lighting, composition, exposure, spend time on the trails of Pleasant Valley apply the lessons and techniques learned.
