DANGEROUS ART: (IM)MORALITY AND ART
VIRTUAL
October 6th, Thursday, 7PM
Politicians, pundits and ordinary people often accuse works of art of being immoral. But what does that really mean? Sometimes we are concerned about the "message" of an artwork, sometimes about the effects of the work on the audience and sometimes about the personal morality of the artist. Furthermore, once we determine that a particular work of art is immoral, how should we respond? In this lecture, James Harold, Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Mount Holyoke College, will examine and evaluate a variety of answers to the questions: what makes a work of art immoral? And what should we do about immoral works of art? $10 - 15.
