NOURISH: COOKBOOK TASTING AND SIGNING

Join best-selling cookbook author Terry Walters for an introduction to her newest cookbook NOURISH—showcasing plant-based recipes to feed body, mind, and soul. NOURISH features 200 vegan and gluten-free seasonal recipes, abundant information on healthy cooking techniques, tools, and tips plus an entire section dedicated to Fermentation and Gut Health. There is photography throughout, original artwork and some of Terry’s own poetry. The cookbook we’ve been awaiting, showing us delicious food during the holidays and beyond doesn’t have to come at the expense of your health! Free.

DEER TICK: LOYAL LISTENERS

Deer Tick, an alternative rock band from Providence RI, has been delighting audiences and an avid fan base for decades. Singer-songwriter John McCauley, guitarist Ian O’Neil, drummer Dennis Ryan, and bassist Christopher Ryan display their blues and country influences without twang, bringing nimble, textured sounds to their performances. Called a “cult band” that “makes sincere, foursquare music with metaphor-packed lyrics” by The New York Times, they keep audiences engaged, listening for what will come next. $15 - 44.

The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce is excited to present the Holiday Shop, Sip, and Stroll in downtown Great Barrington. The day is jam packed with fun, free activities for the whole family. From the Holiday Market & Bonfires to craft workshops (like Adult Wreath Making) to festive Holiday Live Windows to carolers to a Hanukkah & Town Tree Lighting, the event truly celebrates the season culminating in a fabulous fireworks display. HOLIDAY CONCERT: RESOUNDING JOYFUL PRAISES

Enjoy Crescendo Chorus’ performance of Renaissance and Baroque for Chorus and Brass—two eras in which some of the most festival music was written for the Christmas season. Immerse yourself in the rich vocal music on which some of today’s beloved Christmas Carols are based, including In dulci jubilo (Sweet Rejoicing) and Resonet in laudibus (Resounding joyful praises), and instrumental canzonas by Italian and German composers like Praetorius and Handl. You’ll also hear some of the familiar chorals from the Christmas Oratorio by the great J.S. Bach—an expression of joyful expectation. The December 10th event will also include a light show by Joe Wheaton creating a multi-sensory experience. $10 - 75.

BOONDOCKS FILM SOCIETY: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Boondocks Film Society’s holiday event is celebrating the Jodie Foster directed film Home for the Holidays. Based on a book by the New Englander Chris Radiant and a potent screenplay from CT native W.D. Richter, this film about family dysfunction really comes to life through singular, intensely relatable performances from all-star cast Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr., Anne Bancroft and Dylan McDermott. As always, there will be a film-inspired happy hour before the screening with themed music, beverages and an artist-designed commemorative poster. $18.
