O+ FESTIVAL
October 6th-8th, Friday-Sunday, Times vary

O+’s mission is to “exchange the art of medicine for the medicine of art,” and helps build long-term relationships between creatives and health & wellness providers. At this weekend’s celebration, underinsured artists and musicians create and perform in exchange for a variety of services donated by doctors, dentists and complementary care providers. The festival’s signature Wellness EXPO+ features the best in healthcare and health services that utilize a variety of disciplines promoting “whole-person” wellness and well-being. At a time when there are many questions surrounding our nation’s healthcare system, this brilliant example of collective, grassroots action illuminates what private citizens are capable of. Look at the website to learn more about the incredible performances, challenging conversations and some of our community’s most inspiring activists.

13TH PITTSFIELD City JAZZ FESTIVAL
October 6th-15th, Friday-Sunday, Times Vary

Spanning two weekends, the CityJazz festival is a celebration of one of America’s greatest cultural contributions to the world. The event kicks off this weekend with the popular “jazz crawl” when various local musicians perform in restaurants and lounges throughout Pittsfield’s Upstreet Cultural District. Highlights of both weekends include jazz brunches, the Jazz Prodigy Series (featuring an exceptional young performer) and a performance by popular jazz and blues vocalist Samirah Evans. The festival culminates with Dizzy Gillespie’s The Afro-Cuban Experience, during which his long-term bassist will showcase the unique rhythms and well-loved melodies of Gillespie’s library of Cu-Bop. See the website to learn about all of the events and make sure to book tickets in advance for the Berkshires Jazz celebration of the 100th birthday of Dizzy Gillespie. Prices vary.

FBI VS MOBSTERS: PROHIBITION ERA SHOWDOWN
October 7th, Saturday 11AM-5PM

Recreate a battle between the FBI and the bootleggers at the grounds of the prohibition era distillery at Harvest Homestead Farm—better known today as Dutch’s Spirits. In lieu of the Colt Police Positives, shotguns and the typical mobster’s Colt .45s, the showdown will take the more benign form of laser tag. Part of Our Path Through History weekend, gear up to see if you have what it takes to be an FBI agent and bring down a mob boss or if you want to be a Boss yourself. This guaranteed fun event allows kids and adults alike to use their imagination to play “Cops and Robbers” at a historic landmark site of a former gangster’s underground bootlegging complex. 8-13 year olds will showdown from 11AM-noon, while more seasoned action heroes and villains can compete in hourly games from noon-5PM. $20 Pre-registration tickets, $25 Day-of.
