BOOK LOVERS UNITE: THE WORLD IS JUST A BOOK AWAY
December 7th, Thursday 7-8:30PM

The World is Just a Book Away is not just the title of editor James Owens’ book..it is his legacy. In 2002 Owens set out across the globe to find commonality among seemingly disparate individuals through a shared love of literature. The book describes his conversations with sixty people, providing readers with unique insight into the personal stories of contributors like His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, Buzz Aldrin, Liam Neeson and more. Owens is the Founder and CEO The World is Just a Book Away, a nonprofit literacy organization that aims to introduce to all the information, the intrigue and the solace that books can offer. This reading is hosted in collaboration with Lenox’s The Bookstore. Free.

LEARNER’S LAB: LED HOLIDAY CARDS
December 9th, Saturday 11AM-1PM

Combining technology and crafts, Berkshire Museum’s Learner’s Lab is helping brighten up your greeting cards with LED lights! This clever idea introduces those of teenage years or older to the circuitry of LEDs (Light Emitting Diode). And if you are perhaps a little too young to grasp the scientific aspects of the craft, the colorful lights in the cards look beautiful and festive! Make sure to call about a reservation as seating and supplies are limited.

SWEET PHOTOGRAPHY: TREATS FROM A CELEBRATED CHEF
December 9th, Saturday 1-4PM

London-based chef Chef Yotam Ottolenghi has sold over one million copies of his first three cookbooks, one which I purchased and is currently within view as I write this article. His unique and refreshing approach to cooking shines through again, this time in Sweet, a collaboration with his longtime pastry chef, Helen Goh. The elegant recipes have equally stunning food photography to match and the book’s photographers will be signing copies of the cookbook at Dawn Hill Antiques this weekend. Come for a sampling of dreamy desserts made with recipes from Sweet and enjoy pink champagne to make the event even sweeter.

“Resplendent, sweet-toned, brilliant, impressive glorious and outstanding,” are just a sample of the glowing responses to Amanda Boyd’s voice. She has been declared one of Britain’s rising stars and recently appeared at Hudson Hall in the critically acclaimed The Mother of Us All. Composer and pianist Timothy Dunne received much praise, awards from The Fulbright Organization, The New York Foundation for the Arts and acclaim from The New York Times Review that describes his compositions as “strikingly written.” The recital is part of a pop-up series running through the end of the month in celebration of light, beauty and community.
