Pastry Kings

November and December may be the months when thoughts turn most frequently to creating sumptuous goodies in our kitchens. Visions of sugar plums may dance in our heads but how many of us have the expertise to make them a reality?

To show what is really involved in creating a supreme culinary confection, The Norfolk Historical Society will present the documentary film, Kings of Pastry, on November 14th at 7PM at the Norfolk Library,

The program records the efforts of 16 French pastry chefs who gathered in Lyon, France, for three intense days of mixing, piping and sculpting everything from delicate chocolates to six-foot sugar sculptures in hopes of being one of the best in the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France competition (Best Craftsmen in France). Wearing the blue, white and red striped collar given to the winners is considered the ultimate recognition of excellence in the pastry field.

Filmmakers D A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus secured exclusive access to shoot this never-before-filmed test of France’s finest artisans. The film will be introduced by its producer Flora Lazar.
