Spring Spirits

Good bourbon and good works seem a natural match. For the second time Litchfield Jazz is hosting is annual camp scholarship fundraiser at Litchfield Distillery. Spring Spirits, slated for Saturday, May 4, will combine hors d’oeuvres and small plates by Ciesco Catering, Mint Julips to toast the Kentucky Derby winner, jazz led by internationally renowned saxophonist Albert Rivera and both silent and live auctions.

All proceeds support students with financial need at this summer’s Litchfield Jazz Camp at the Gunnery in Washington.

WNPR’s on-air host John Dankosky will be the host of the live auction. Partygoers can bid on two trips—a week in Tuscany for two or an ocean-view stateroom on the 20th sailing of The Jazz Cruise 2020 aboard the Celebrity Infinity. The cruise constitutes a full-ship-charter jazz festival at sea by Entertainment Cruise Productions.

The 2020 lineup includes Christian McBride, Arturo Sandoval, John Clayton, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Wycliffe Gordon, Randy Brecker (both Wycliffe and Randy are featured on the 2019 Litchfield Jazz Fest), Joey DeFrancesco, the Brubeck Brothers, Anat Cohen, pianists Benny Green and Renee Rosnes and dozens of other top jazz artists. The ship will visit Costa Maya, Cozumel, Nassau, Key West and Miami.

The silent auction includes tickets to Tanglewood, the Hartford Yard Goats, local theater and jazz performances, a basket of Litchfield Distillery favorites, restaurant meals, a chocolate gift basket valued at $200, spa and yoga certificates and more.

The Connecticut Community Foundation has pledged to match the first $1,000 in scholarship donations at the event to help close the current $10,000 gap between scholarship resources raised this year, $40,000, and those requested.

Donations are deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the law.

Founded in 1997, Litchfield Jazz Camp now serves 70-150 residential and day students each week for one to four-week sessions on the campus of The Gunnery, an independent boarding and day school in Washington CT. Run by Litchfield Performing Arts, a charitable organization dedicated to changing lives through music, the camp recruits a faculty of inspiring jazz musicians to work with eager music students—13 years to adult, beginners, intermediate and advanced players, students with learning disabilities and others—in a non-competitive program
