Art Films at the Moviehouse
There are those who believe the tristate region is a beautiful backwater. Yes, there is a plethora of summertime events—Tanglewood, Music Mountain, regional theater and the like—but for a real cultural experience they yearn for the world’s great capitals.
Well, it’s not always convenient to jet off to London or Paris or even to travel to New York. Nevertheless, you need not forego great performances just because you are lodged locally. The Moviehouse has been offering a host of arts programming, often on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and will continue its offerings through September.
Each is a special one-off performance or show, encoring some of the best plays from stages around the world and showcasing art from major international exhibitions. The programming also gives audiences a chance to see important documentary films that cannot be seen in other cinemas.
Included in the schedule for September are the Old Vic Theatre’s production of A View from the Bridge, Arthur Miller’s dark exploration of the quest for the American Dream; September 15th, general tickets $21, members $18; the Globe on Screen presentation of Shakespeare’s Richard II, September 18th at 1PM, general tickets $21, members $18; David Bowie Is, the Victoria & Albert Museum’s retrospective of the artist’s career, September 19th at 7PM, general admission $16, contributing members $13; National Theater Live’s performance of The Three Penny Opera, September 22nd at 7PM, general admission $21, members $18.
The Moviehouse is located at 48 Main Street in Millerton, NY; 518-789-0022.
