Mutt Lovers
Make Your Mark
Own a mutt—any kind of mutt from the bluest of blood to a multi-generational, multi-breed, superior-in-every-way variety? Then, you might want to make your way this weekend to The Great Country Mutt Show at Lime Rock Park on Sunday, 11AM to 2:30PM. The Westminster-style dog show celebrates dogs of all styles and all creeds.
It may be Westminster-like but the categories are definitely unique, including categories such as: Junior (humans under 12), most unidentifiable mix; sweetest pair of dogs, best ears, best trick; best lap dog over 40 pounds, best senior, best kisser, waggiest tail and the dog that looks most like its owner.
The annual affair will feature guest host Nicole Nalepa, news anchor at WFSB, and guest judge Broadway trainer, Bill Berlonie. The event is free for spectators and contestants pay $20 to participate, which allows them to compete in two categories. Proceeds benefit the Little Guild of St Frances which rehomes abandoned, strayed and displaced animals.
Attendees will enjoy music by the Joint Chiefs, can participate in a raffle and savor treats from Ben & Jerry’s, Coffeeology, Barnstormer Burgers and Crepe Royale. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is a sponsor of the event and will have a tent offering dogs a water drinking station with some happenings for dogs and people alike.
The Little Guild is currently building a new shelter for the animals entrusted to its care. The new facility is being built on the footprint of the old shelter and operations have been moved to land leased from the town on Foote Field, Furnace Brook Road in Cornwall Bridge. The staff and animals are temporarily housed in two construction trailers and a modular kennel.
