Find the Arts

Dealing with the corona crisis is hard enough if you have a store front. But what if you are an artist, who labors alone and must sell works through galleries and other venues? Life can be pretty daunting during a pandemic.

After a year of minimal exposure, a holiday, event, Artists Sunday, is being celebrated between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. The day is dedicated to encouraging consumers to shop with artists to find handcrafted, unique gifts for Christmas this year.

A number of regional artists will participate, including Standard Space, 147 Main Street in Sharon, which will mount Nostaliga, a showing of works by artists Ann Toebbe and Carly Glovinski. A socially distanced reception will be held November 28th from 5:30-8PM. Four individuals, or one family group, will be admitted at a time. Weather permitting, refreshments will be served outside. Masks are required.
The works will remain on display through January 1st.

The D.M. Hunt Library, 63 Main Street in Falls Village, has already opened its Twelve-by-Twelve year-end flash art exhibition, on display during library operating hours or can be viewed online or be appointment. There is no formal opening reception.
Since 2011, the library’s ArtWall has showcased local professional and emerging artists living in Northwest Connecticut and the tristate area.

Artist Kiki Michalek is offering an online artist’s demonstration of her Romantic Rose Carousel series. She will show participants how she hand-cuts stencils and airbrushes petals onto the background freestyle. Sessions will be held November 28th at 1PM and December 26th at 5PM. For reservations go to airbornecreations.com or call 203-913-3883.

Saturday, November 28th at 5:30PM, Chorus Angelicus will livestream a concert fundraiser with the Trepanier Larson Duo, live from Trinity Episcopal Church in Torrington. A ticket includes a take-out family-style dinner for four from Noujain’s Bistro in Winsted or Anthony’s Restaurant in Torrington. For tickets, go to www.chorusangelicus.com.

The Kent Art Association in Kent will also join the Artists Sunday alliance November 29th. “As we wrap up the year with our final show, KAA is focused on promoting our member’s works on Artist Sunday to highlight their talents and share with others the joy of art,” said Connie Horton, president of KAA.
Located at 21 South Main St. in Kent, KAA is a non-profit, volunteer-run community organization. Visit at www.kentart.org.
