Flavors of the Foothills
For more than a quarter of a century Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Connecticut has gone quietly about its charitable goal, producing one home after another throughout the region to house families who have been priced out of the housing market.
Habitat works in partnership with the selected families, who must work at least 400 hours in some capacity—providing “sweat equity”—volunteers, local contractors and building supply businesses to build or renovate decent affordable housing. The houses are then sold to the partner families with a no-interest mortgage.
But even with donations of time and material, building 12 homes over 25 years costs money. This Saturday, from 5-10 PM Habitat will hold one of its most popular events, Flavors of the Foothills, in the Green Barn at Stillwater Farm in Salisbury. Billed as “a locavore’s delight,” the event will celebrate the region’s bounty with hors d’oeuvres created from local produce, cheeses, breads, charcuterie, wine, beer and spirits.
Tickets for the event are $50 in advance and $60 at the door and are available at the link below, by calling 860-435-4747 or by e-mailing admin@habitatnwct.org.
