MORNING PADDLE: BOATING ON BANTAM LAKE
IN PERSON
September 14th, Saturday, 7:30AM - 9:30AM
There is no better way to begin a day than by launching your boat on the Bantam River and communing with Nature and like-minded friends. Join Kelly Orr for a trip up or down the river. Water level will dictate in what direction to go! Be on the lookout for herons, beavers, snapping turtles and more! Bring your thermos and a snack. Meet at the boat launch on Whites Woods Road. 7:45 am. The paddle begins promptly at 8:00 am. You must bring your own boat! $5 Members, $10 Non-Members.

FROM THE EARTH TO THE SEA: ANNUAL CLAMBAKE

Savor local Indigenous foods of lobster, clams, corn and potatoes as we come together to celebrate Indigenous peoples of Connecticut. This year, the Institute for American Indian Studies is proud to honor Indigenous artists who have enriched our lives with their work – their 2023 Emerging Artist Award recipient Claudine Purdue and Fashion Designer/Artist Brandi Emmans. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on artist works, among other items, in the silent auction. All proceeds from this fundraiser help IAIS bring Indigenous history, ideas, and knowledge to the public throughout the year. $75.

DEWEY HALL DAHLIA FESTIVAL: BOUQUET BAR, CONTEST & WORKSHOPS

Join in for the 2nd Annual Dewey Hall Dahlia Festival where you can view the visually stunning display of dahlias submitted for the homegrown dahlia contest, peruse gorgeous bouquets available for purchase at the bouquet bar, and enjoy floral foods and beverages. There will also be face-painting, an assortment of local vendors, a garden information booth and a raffle of fabulous horticultural prizes. There will be a workshop room featuring workshops in floral arranging with dahlias, creating biodegradable flower crowns and overwintering dahlia tubers (the workshops are ticketed and registration in advance is encouraged to guarantee your place). Harpist Marie Hamilton will provide live harp music to accompany the event. Wear your flowers! There will also be a prize for the best garden party hat. Event is free, $15 - $30 for Workshops.

Geffen Professor of Medical and Scientific Journalism at Columbia University, for a look at one of the strangest frontiers in biology today. Geffen is the author of The Beak of the Finch, which won the Pulitzer Prize. His latest book, Long for This World, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. $10 - $15.

The Incredible Naumkeag Pumpkin Show is BACK! This year with more pumpkins, more fun and an expanded schedule! Explore the famous gardens as they transform Naumkeag into a celebration of autumn with over 1,500 jack-o-lanterns, hundreds of mums, pumpkins and countless gourds – most of which were grown right there at Naumkeag.
