LEVEL UP YOUR BIRDING: WATERFOWL ON BERKSHIRE LAKES

In this two-part series, take a deep dive into a group of birds that can be overwhelming for many beginners: waterfowl. Learn about the waterfowl of the Berkshires in the Friday session and the next morning test your skills in the field with a carpooling trip to look for waterfowl at several lakes in the area. This is designed for beginner and intermediate birders looking to improve their skills. $30 - $40.

CRAFT WORKSHOP: GIFTS FOR GIVING

HUMBLE PIE HULLABALOO: FESTIVE FEASTING

The humble pie is celebrated for its versatility (sweet and savory, entree and dessert), its comfort and tradition and its memory-making magic—bringing us back to simple made-from-scratch home baking and favorite family gatherings. The People's Pie Contest returns this year without the contest but the opportunity to sample many pies and/or win a pie or prize.You’re invited to gather with friends and neighbors to enjoy soup, cider, foot-tapping fiddle music, festive pie feasting, recipe gathering (from the donated pies) and seasonal raffle prizes. $25.

CHALK & SOOT: BROOKLYN RIDER QUARTET & ARIADNE GREIF

Brooklyn Rider has carved a singular space in the world of string quartets over the last fifteen-plus years with repertoire ranging from late-Beethoven to Persian classical music to American roots music to the varied voices of living composers. This performance will present four brand new string quartets inspired by "Der Blaue Reiter", a pre-WW1 era collective led by Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky; Schoenberg's tonality-shattering String Quartet No. 2 with the mesmerizing American soprano Ariadne Greif and a new song cycle written by Colin Jacobsen, the quartet violinist and The Knights ensemble.

WOODCARVING 101: COMFORT BIRD

Hone your woodcarving skills in this comprehensive workshop designed for any level of experience. Participants will learn safe and effective carving techniques to create a finished handheld comfort bird made of pine. Master woodcarver, Leo Hein, will demonstrate tool safety, tool maintenance and guide participants through the carving process using their own tools. This is a great opportunity to learn the natural characteristics of wood from a seasoned master woodworker. $72 - $80.
