JAZZ AGE TUNES: SOUNDS OF SWING

Enjoy live musical ambiance as you explore the Jazz Age Illustration exhibition at the Norman Rockwell Museum. A jazz duo will perform music from the 1920s through the early ’40s directly in the galleries— providing a soundtrack that reflects the style, fashion and dynamism of this era of rapid social and cultural change in America. LESSONS & CAROLS IN KINDERHOOK: READINGS & MUSIC OF THE SEASON
December 21st, Sunday, 4PM
Since its founding in 2010, this well-established tradition of gathering for readings, congregational singing, choral and organ music of the Christmas season, is a staple regional event. Nine readers from throughout the area will be joined by the Lessons & Carols Choir, an experienced ensemble of select singers. All are invited to sing traditional hymns and carols throughout the service with choral offerings from the 17th through the 20th centuries by Rutter, Vaughan Williams, Morley and others. The organ preludes include works of Bach, Brahms, and Reger and the postlude will be the mighty Toccata from the Fifth Symphony of Charles-Marie Widor. Lessons & Carols in Kinderhook is open to all regardless of faith or denomination. Free.

WINTER IN THE WOODLANDS

Looking for something fun and educational to do with your family during the holiday break? The Institute for American Indian Studies will host two days of exciting indoor and outdoor activities inspired by the lifeways and lessons of local Native Americans! Each day they will offer an action packed day of games, activities and traditional Native American Storytelling. Participants will play games such as snow snake, snow boat, hoop and pole and create keepsakes to take home like corn husk dolls, buzzers or beadwork. $10 - $40.

NIGHTWOOD: WINTER WONDERLAND

NightWood has returned for its sixth season, inviting visitors to step into a fantastical landscape where music, light, and nature come together in a journey under the stars. This year’s installation features two all-new encounters, a redesigned return path and enhanced lighting and sound elements that promise to heighten the sense of wonder.
