FOOD FOR THE SOUL:
MICHELANGELO AND THE LAURENTIAN LIBRARY

April 3rd, Tuesday, 5:30-6:30PM

There is much mysticism surrounding the works of Michelangelo, and characteristics have been attributed to his Laurentian Library that go far beyond the scope of most physical structures. In fact, in the celebrated book, The Architecture of Michelangelo, the structure is interpreted as a cohesive, living body, engaged in a physiological dialogue with the visitor. Professor and Author Daniel Savoy will explore this idea through literature of that period—medical, natural, philosophical—all suggesting Michelangelo’s take on the monastic library’s tradition as nutrimentum spiritis, or, food for the soul. Free.
