Hiking on Haystack

With the summer on the wane, what better time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful landscape for which our Berkshire region is known. One of the best places to get some fresh air is atop the picturesque Haystack Mountain in Norfolk, CT.

This hike is perfect for anyone's walking legs. It is possible to drive halfway up the slope; from there it is only a half mile hike to enjoy one of the best views in the tri-state area. A thirty-four foot stone tower greets you at the summit where you can see the green peaks of Vermont. During the warmer months, Connecticut's own mountain laurel blooms along the trail, providing an incentive to return both spring and autumn. In the fall an expansive display of gorgeous foliage is visible across the mountain.

The interior park road opened the third weekend in April and remains so until the first of November. The walkable trail is open year round. Bathroom facilities and picnic tables are provided.

So pack some snacks, put on your hiking shoes and celebrate all that Autumn has to offer in the Berkshires!
