Honeychurch Home

There was a time when the items purchased for our homes were not disposable. They were meant to provide pleasure and service for a lifetime—and perhaps longer as they were often handed from generation to generation.

That tradition is what Carolyn Piccirelli perpetuates in her store, Honeychurch Home, located at 10 Academy Street in Salisbury. “My goal is to continually find new sources and products that will delight and surprise customers,” she writes. “I believe that buying well-made pieces that are meant to last a lifetime are not only good for the environment but good for the soul.

Piccirelli, who opened her store last February, just before the onslaught of the pandemic, seeks out beautiful home décor for her clientele with the goal of making their homes “happy,” largely sourcing her objects from Europe. She enjoys working with companies that handcraft their products and with manufacturers who have been around for generations.

She advises clients to consider texture and not just color when accessorizing a room. Using five to seven different textures per room--baskets, ceramics, candles, textiles and the like—will keep a room from looking bland. Still, color has its place in design and she uses “color stories” to keep her store looking fresh and inviting as the seasons change.

Piccirelli also offers fresh flower bouquets and customers can either bring in their own container or choose from her collection.

Piccirelli had a long career in retail before opening Honeychurch Home but had always dreamed of owning her own ship. In preparing to open, she visited other home décor shops in the region and attended trade shows to determine current trends. She then drew on her experience in the trade to seek out vendors, most of whom are overseas.

When it came to naming her new enterprise, she found inspiration in her favorite book, A Room with a View, naming it after the main character, Lucy Honeychurch. Oddly in the book, the main characters take a Grand Tour of Florence, the very city where Piccirelli began her buying expedition for her store.

During the pandemic, store hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11AM-4PM and Sunday noon-4PM;
