Hudson Celebrates

by KATHRYN BOUGHTON

Residents of Hudson NY celebrated the end of World War II in Europe in 1945 with a victory parade. The Eastern Theater came to an end two months later when the Japanese surrendered on August 14, 1945.

This photo comes from the Carmine Ciancetta collection held by the Hudson (NY) Area Library.

Ciancetta, owner of Rowles Studio, 441 Warren Street in Hudson, donated a collection of 80 photos of the Hudson area which can be viewed at the library.

Rowles Studio was in operation from 1916, when Rowles purchased the business from V. Whitbeck Studios, until 1982. The collection includes more than a century’s worth of photographs of Hudson's streets, buildings, events, boats and people as well as photographs of several Columbia County courthouses ca. 1890-1910.
