Inspired Yogurt
Over the years, the Southfield Store, the casual sister restaurant to the five-star Old Inn on the Green, has gained a well-justified reputation for its culinary offerings.
Patrons flock to the store for a wide array of scrumptious baked goods; breakfast sandwiches and pastries, lunches of hot and cold sandwiches, served from 7 AM to 5 PM throughout the winter season.
But now there is something new and different on the menu, something not for human customers, but for beloved canine companions.
Peter Platt and Meredith Kennard, co-owners of the Old Inn on the Green, located in New Marlborough, and The Southfield Store, have always loved dogs. Several years ago they rescued Chapman, a hound from Tennessee, who became the mascot at the Old Inn and the store.
He was not the only dog within their doors, however. Canines are always welcome at the store and there are always house-baked dog biscuits and water bowls available. But when Chapman succumbed recently to his years, the bakery team at the store created a memorial treat: Chapman’s Frozen Yogurt for Dogs.
Chapman was, himself, a yogurt lover and was often rewarded with it for his mascot duties.
The bakery team’s tribute recalls his refined taste, containing a healthy combination of yogurt, bananas and peanut butter and comes in two-ounce “pup cups” ($2) and full pints ($8). Chapman’s visage adorns the containers.
It is available for sale at The Southfield Store. Wholesale pricing is also offered for local grocers and dog care facilities.
The store is located at 163 Norfolk Road, Southfield MA; 413-229-5050 or at the link below.
