Jazz & Chopin

Over his long life—he died in 2016 at age 97—Dolph Traymon always kept the beat, first as piano accompanist for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee and Rudy Vallee and later as the genial host of his restaurant and inn, the Fife ’n Drum, opened in 1973 after he gave up touring with the greats.

Even after he retired from the road, Traymon continued to make music, appearing at the restaurant most evenings in black tie and playing an eclectic mix of Chopin and standards that delighted regulars such as Vladimir Horowitz, Skitch Henderson and James Cagney.

November 10th, Music in the Nave will celebrate Traymon’s 100th birthday with pianist Margarita Nuller playing music by Chopin, with vocalist Wanda Houston and a jazz trio also performing from The Great American Songbook.

Nuller gave her debut recital at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall as a winner of the Artist International Auditions. She has been a soloist with orchestras in the U.S. and abroad and currently teaches at the Kent School. Wanda Houston has worked in productions with stars such as Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole and regularly sings at the Sharon Playhouse and the Fife ’n Drum.

The concert will take place at 4PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1 North Main Street, Kent. Admission is $20 at the door or $15 online at www.eventbrite.com. For more information call 860-927-3486 or click on the link below.
