Jazz Jam at Dewey Hall
Dewey Memorial Hall at 91 Main Street in Sheffield will hold its final 2023 Jazz Jam Wednesday, December 13th, at 7PM. The doors open at 6:30PM with a $10 admission at the door.
The monthly Drop-in open jazz jams are inspired by the storied, genre-defining jams from the formative era of jazz music and are designed to bring together members of the area’s vibrant musical community, fostering new connections across a range of skill levels. Professional musicians often pair with budding talent.
Historically, jazz jams were at the center of many of the innovations in jazz music. Early jazz jams inspired the creation of Bebop music, offering young players such as Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie the opportunity to play with jazz icons such as Ben Webster and Lester Young.
Jazz jams have been organized by Brian Kantor and facilitated by local jazz guitarist Luke Franco, featuring a house band.
Attendees can order hot food from a special Roberto’s menu and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available at the hall. Order here and must be placed by 6:45PM to be delivered by Dewey staff to the Hall at 7:30. Orders are taken until 9 PM but if the order is not ready by 7:30 patrons must pick up their own orders.
No outside beverages or food allowed.
