KayCee & Company Boutique

Cassidy Considine is investing further in the future of Canaan. Last year, taking a calculated gamble, she opened the stylish—and highly successful—Nutrition on Railroad, a shop specializing in protein drinks and teas. This spring she has expanded, opening an adjacent store, KayCee & Co Boutique, which sells a variety of chic gifts for man, woman, child and even dog.

Considine has partnered with Kelly Wolfe in the new business which opened in early May. “Canaan didn’t have any place where you could buy gift items,” she said. “This is something new to town. We drew our inspiration from Sidetracks (a gift store formerly located in the railroad depot that relocated to Stockbridge, MA). We talked to its owners and other gift shops and then put our own flair on it,” she said.

There is a lighthearted air to the gift items offered in the little shop. Last week, for Father’s Day, there were a variety of novelty items such as a pizza cutter in the shape of a table saw, “Liquid Courage” body wash, novelty socks, Righteous Felon Craft Jerky and more. While Dad munches on his jerky, his canine best friend can nosh on treats from Roxie’s Barkery.

“We have a lot of fun stuff for the kitchen,” Considine said, “stuff for kids, dinnerware and artisan jewelry. We have tables and cutting boards created at the Artisan’s Shop (located just down the street). If people want one of his tables, they can just order it.”

The shop even has candles with a signature scent created just for the boutique.

Kaycee is located at 3 Railroad Street immediately adjacent to Nutrition on Railroad. The walls have been opened between the two businesses so, while boutique hours are 10 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday through Sunday, Considine says it is, in reality, open during the same hours as Nutrition on Railroad. “People can wander over and browse while they are waiting for their drinks,” she said. “There is always someone here.”
