Lectures at Innisfree

Innisfree Garden in Millbrook NY is breaching the pandemic divide with a series of lectures this spring. The remaining webinars are $10 (free for Innisfree members) and are available on Zoom.

The next session, Innisfree: A Study in Slow Gardening with landscape curator Kate Kerin, is set for March 25th at 2PM. She will discuss the remarkable design strategies and ecology-based management techniques that make Innisfree—an iconic mid-20th century landscape—a memorable and sustainable success. Kate Kerin has served as landscape curator at Innisfree since 2013 and wrote the award-winning National Register listing for this historic site.

On April 8th, horticulturist and Innisfree trustee Brad Roeller will present Native Trees and Shrubs for Northeaster Gardens at 2PM. Native plants, generally considered to have been present before European contact, evolved with other native flora and fauna to suit the particular conditions of a region. As a result, these plants need less maintenance, including water, fertilizers and pesticides, to grow well. Roeller will offer a wealth of ideas and expertise to gardeners at every level.

Finally, on April 22nd, in Garden Portraits: Experiences Captured by Camera and Pen, Kerin will join in discussion with photographer Larry Lederman and horticulturist and garden writer Tom Christopher about the gardens featured in their book, Garden Portraits: Experiences of Natural Beauty. Lederman is a renowned photographer of gardens and architecture while Christopher is a horticulturist and one of the best garden writers of our time.
