Library of Things

More than a quarter of a century ago, libraries began to realize that it wasn’t just about books anymore. Physical books, dutifully carried to the librarian’s desk to be stamped with a date of return, began to be supplemented by computer access for all kinds of research, DVDs, electronic books, digital newspapers, reference resources and so much more.

Libraries became community centers for Scrabble nights, knitting circles, art shows, concerts and all kinds of community sharing. Now the Kent Memorial Library has found a way to add a new level of community involvement with its Library of Things.

The Library of Things offers free checkout of household items with a library card to encourage community sharing. Items such as chairs, crockpots, high chairs and the like will provide a convenient resource for party nights and grandparent weekends. You can even reserve an item for a specific date in the future if you know you when you will need it.

KML has also expanded its hours for the community, including summer Sundays, noon to 4PM and Thursdays until 8:30PM starting September 1st.

Kent Memorial Library provides a center for collaborative engagement, education and enrichment for the greater Kent community. Kent Memorial Library is located at 32 North Main Street, Kent, Connecticut, 860-927-3761.
