Orchids at the Library
Ever received an orchid as a gift? I did once and was scared to death of it. It was fantastically beautiful but looked so fragile—and I have a notoriously black thumb. If only I had talked to landscape designer Ty Triplett …
Now the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon, in collaboration with the Essex Library Association, will present Triplett in a virtual program, Orchids 101: Demystifying the World's Most Fascinating Plants, Saturday, March 11th at 4PM. Listeners will learn how to grow orchids and of resources that will help the plants grow, bloom and thrive.
Triplett is a landscape architect in Essex. As a child his love of vegetable gardening led him to orchids and he has been growing, exhibiting and killing orchids ever since. He is an accredited judge with the American Orchid Society, has served as the co-chair for orchid entries at the Philadelphia Flower Show, on the membership committee of the American Orchid Society and has been the orchid grower and curator for Rutgers University's orchid collection.
Triplett has received numerous cultural and flower quality awards from the American Orchid Society, the Medal for Horticulture from the National Garden Club and fulfilled a childhood dream by winning Best Orchid in Show at the Philadelphia Flower Show. He has raised orchids on windowsills, under lights and in greenhouses. Triplett will share some of the lessons he wishes he knew when he began growing the world's most incredible family of plants.
