Future of News

at The Salisbury Forum

Over the past two years, trust in media has hit a record low (26 percent) among those aged 18 to 29. That cohort will be the consumers for news organizations in decades to come, outing the future of the media on trial.

The Salisbury Forum will look at this test of journalism’s future Friday, October 25th at 7:30PM when David D. Kirkpatrick presents The News on Trial at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

Kilpatrick spent 22 years as a correspondent for The New York Times where he contributed to the coverage of several American presidential elections. From 2011 through 2015 he was the Cairo bureau chief, leading coverage of the Arab Spring uprisings. In 2020 he was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize for international reporting on covert Russian interference in the politics of other governments.

In August’s online and print editions of The New Yorker he had an article called The Infiltrators that examines the threat from rising domestic terrorism and the FBI’s caution about investigating it because of Republicans’ allegations of a “deep state.”
