Shakespeare in The Galleries

When you’re good enough, you don’t age out. Two weeks after what would have been his 438th birthday, William Shakespeare will be feted at the Berkshire Museum May 6, from 7 to 8 PM.

During a special promenade event co-sponsored by Shakespeare & Company, visitors are invited to wander the galleries of the Berkshire Museum, encountering actors performing speeches and scenes from a variety of Shakespeare’s plays.

They will experience an ode to Cleopatra delivered, appropriately enough, next to the museum’s resident mummy. Macbeth’s final speech, (“ … Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage / And then is heard no more … ,”) will be delivered while patrons are surrounded by a collection of beautiful clocks. They will be immersed in poetry of the sea in the Museum’s Aquarium and more.

Also featured in this event are excerpts from the Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet which is directed by Kevin G. Coleman.

General admission is $30; museum members, students, and seniors will be admitted for $25. The museum is located at 39 South Street in Pittsfield MA. 413-443-7171.
