Snowflake Bentley

Is it true that no two snowflakes are alike? I put to you that we cannot know as it would be impossible to compare every snowflake. But for Snowflake Bentley—Wilson Bently, a farmer from Vermont—it didn’t matter. The complexity and beauty of a single snow crystal was the focus for his camera, making him the first to record the fragile works of art on film.

Bentley’s collection of photographs still inspires and creates new generations of snowflake photographers. The White Memorial Conservation Center will present some of his work Saturday, January 24th, at 2PM in the A.B. Ceder Room and show how anyone can photograph snow crystals using Smart Phone technology.

Participants will dive into the science behind the beautiful shapes and what they tell about the atmospheric conditions above.

The entry fee is $10 for members; $20 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.
