Spirit Rides

On the Berkshire Scenic Railroad

Railroad lovers can get into the mood of the season on two special excursion trains this month when the Berkshire Scenic Railroad offers two “Spirited Train Rides” with psychic medium Julie MacDonald.

The regular scenic rides are offered each Saturday over BSRR’s new Hoosac Valley line, departing from North Adams Station at: 10AM, 11:30, 1:30PM, and 3:00PM. The spirit rides will depart at 5:30PM on October 14 and 21.

“The Hoosac Valley is rich with stories of days past and we want to offer people an opportunity to view that history through a different perspective, so we are hosting this special event to not only respond to demand for such an event but also encourage interest in the rich history of this area,” said Trevor Dorgan, marketing coordinator for the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum.

Spirit Trains depart promptly at 5:30PM. aboard BSRM’s vintage Budd Rail Diesel Car. Passengers will learn how to tap into spirit energies on the ride to Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Southview Cemetery, founded in 1888, is a Victorian-style cemetery that has been visited by paranormal investigation teams.

Upon arrival at Southview, patrons will take a walking tour through the cemetery (which is in the shadow of the Hoosac Tunnel) with MacDonald as their guide. They will also have the opportunity to see and/or feel the energy of spirits around them with her guidance. Information and messages from the world of Spirit will be delivered as received by the medium.

This experience is part train ride and part walking tour and will last approximately 1½ to 2 hours. Approximately one hour will be spent outdoors and participants should prepare appropriately for the weather. In the event of severely inclement weather, MacDonald and patrons will ‘tune in’ to the cemetery and spirit world from the passenger car.

Tickets are $40; and the event is open to those 18 years of age and older (16- and 17-year-olds are admitted with an adult chaperone). There are no restroom facilities available at the cemetery or on-board the train. Passengers must be fully ambulatory and able to climb up and down stairs.

Advance purchase of tickets is recommended. All excursions depart from 98 Crowley Ave., North Adams; mailing address: P.O. Box 2195; Lenox, MA 01240; 413-637-2210.
