Williams Inn
Out with the old, in with the new
The new Williams Inn, located at the corner of Latham and Spring streets, opened last week, smaller in size but richer in amenities than the old inn of that name, which was closed July 31.
Owned by Williams College, the wood and stone architecture for the new inn reflects the tradition of local farms, with an interior design reminiscent of a contemporary New England farmhouse.
The new inn has 64 rooms as compared with the 125 in its previous incarnation. Even with the inn’s smaller size, the staff will increase to accommodate an increase in business at the restaurant/bar, dubbed The Barn, where diners can get breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant has 62 seats, as well as two private dining spaces that can accommodate parties as large as 12.
The management plans to increase the number of events in the new 2,800-square-foot ballroom and the additional 400-square-foot space directly adjacent to the ballroom. The ballroom accommodates up to 390 people for a cocktail-style function, 180 people for a seated function, or 150 people seated with a dance floor. The space can be divided for smaller events, each equipped with audio/visual capabilities.
There is further seating on the patio outside the restaurant and the banquet hall.
Event space reservations are being accepted starting September 1st.
Rooms are equipped with 65-inch flat-screen televisions, and a plethora of energy-saving technology but patrons may prefer to unplug to enjoy the spectacular views of Spring Street and the surrounding hills.
