Wine on Wednesday
Way back in 2013, long before the world was turned topsy-turvy by an unseen enemy, wine was already seen as a celebratory way to unwind. According to a study by Australian bottlers Cobevco, Wednesday evening at 6.53PM is the preferred time to pop the cork on the first bottle of the week.
Wednesday, the theory goes, is “hump day,” the moment when the psychology of the workplace tells us that the worst is over and it is time to relax.
Cobevco’s study revealed that men were quicker with the cork, typically pouring their first glass at 6:40PM, while women were half an hour behind, taking their first sip at 7:07PM. But what was true for both sexes, was that the first glass was probably consumed in the comfort of the home.
A year of Covid-19 has, indeed, kept us at home, with few opportunities to gather. But now, D.M. Hunt Library in Falls Village is putting all three factors together: Wednesday, wine and home for a new kind of social gathering. It is inviting area residents to a free Zoom virtual happy hour, Wine on Wednesday, with Jim Kennedy of Salisbury Wines. The event is planned for March 31st at 6PM.
Participants can pour themselves a glass and join Kennedy for conversations on red, white, rose and everything in between. He will share his favorite picks for both the novice and the expert and what to look for when searching for that perfect bottle.
