Winter Farmers Markets
The land sleeps through the winter months but that does not mean our desire for artisanal foods and products goes into hibernation. Nor does the cold mean the end of Farmers Markets.
Berkshire Grown is enjoying its 2021-’22 Winter Market season, albeit in a new location. The Great Barrington Saturday markets are being held this year in the Housy Dome in Housatonic MA, a village of Great Barrington. The Housy Dome is located at 1064 Main Street.
The indoor Great Barrington Winter Farmers Market continues on the third Saturday of each month through April, 10 AM to 2 PM. The winter markets feature the abundance of locally grown and produced foods unique to the Berkshires. Vendors offer local products ranging from winter squash, greens and root crops to apples, meats, cheeses, honey and maple syrup. Also offered are baked goods, jams, ferments and cider.
Admission is free and SNAP is accepted with a 100 percent match, available at the Market Manager’s table. For shoppers using SNAP, Berkshire Grown is authorized to process the Healthy Incentive Program (HIP), adding extra money to their EBT wallet for fruits and vegetables on top of regular SNAP benefits.
Everyone entering the market area must wear masks and shoppers are encouraged to make shopping lists and send only one or two household members to the market. Shoppers can also make pre-purchases from some vendors via WhatsGood, the e-commerce platform on the Berkshire Grown website, berkshiregrown.org, with pick-up at the vendors’ tables.
